Maine ironworkers endorse John Richardson

Iron Workers Local 7 endorses labor lawyer, legislative leader and economic development commissioner.

AUGUSTA, Maine - The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local 7 has become the fourth union to endorse John Richardson for governor of Maine. They join the Maine State Troopers Association, the Maine Association of Police and the Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 716 in supporting Richardson. Local 7 gave Richardson its endorsement citing his plan to restore economic prosperity in Maine.

John Evans, spokesperson for Local 7, said, "Richardson will make a great Governor. He understands that improving Maine's economy means good jobs for working people." Richardson acknowledged the support of the ironworkers, saying, "I come from a union family and I care deeply about the ironworkers' needs and the needs of their kids and grandkids. I believe we need to invest in our workers, our businesses, our educational institutions and our communities to restore Maine's economy." He went on to say, "This is a campaign about the working people of Maine, not about the deep-pockets of special interests. I am privileged to have their support."

Richardson, a Democrat, is a Clean Elections candidate for Governor of Maine. An attorney, Richardson represented District 63 in the Maine House of Representatives from 1999 to 2006, and served as Speaker of the House. He was most recently Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development. He resides in Brunswick with his wife, Dr. Stephanie Grohs, and their three children.
